What to Do When a Reading Doesn't Make Sense Right Away

Have you ever left a tarot reading understanding some of the messages, while other parts left you wondering, "What does that mean?" If so, you're not alone. Not every message lands immediately, and that's okay.

Sometimes a reading offers clarity about what's happening in your life right now. Other times, it shines a light on patterns, emotions, or situations you haven't fully recognized yet. That doesn't mean the reading was "wrong" or that you missed something. It may simply mean you're still processing the message or that the timing isn't right for everything to click.

During a reading, you might notice yourself agreeing with some messages while feeling uncertain about others. That's a completely normal experience. Rather than forcing an interpretation, give yourself permission to sit with what resonates and let the rest unfold naturally.

One phrase I often share is:

"Take it how it resonates, not make it resonate."

There's no need to search for meaning that isn't there or convince yourself a message fits. Instead, allow yourself time to reflect. Sometimes understanding comes later through a conversation, an experience, or a moment of self-awareness.

Why Journaling Can Help

One of the practices I often recommend after a reading is journaling.

Writing down the messages that stood out—even the ones that don't quite make sense—creates space for reflection. As you put your thoughts on paper, you may begin noticing connections, recurring themes, or emotions that weren't obvious during your session. It's like opening a window, allowing in what may have been hidden or what you weren't yet able to see.

For some people, journaling becomes less about finding answers and more about creating awareness.

Life moves quickly. It's easy to operate on autopilot, moving from one responsibility to the next without pausing to notice what you're feeling or experiencing. Taking even a few quiet moments to reflect can help you reconnect with yourself and recognize patterns you may have overlooked.

Sometimes journaling feels like a release. Other times, it simply helps organize thoughts that have been swirling around in your mind. Either way, it creates an opportunity to slow down and listen to yourself.

Trust the Process

Not every message is meant to be understood the moment you hear it.

Some insights arrive when you're ready to receive them. Others become clear only after life provides additional context. Giving yourself grace throughout that process can make your reading feel less like a puzzle to solve and more like a conversation that continues long after the session ends.

Have you ever looked back on a reading and realized something finally clicked days, weeks, or even months later?

If so, you know that clarity doesn't always arrive in the moment. Sometimes it unfolds as you reflect, journal, and continue living your life.

If you ever leave a reading with questions, know that it's okay. Curiosity is part of the journey. Allow yourself the time and space to reflect, and trust that the pieces will come together in their own way.

If you're ready to explore what your cards may be revealing, I'd be honored to support you. You can book your session here.
